Met up with Bill and Jeff at long last, went into the cafe for a hot drink where we found that for a fiver each, the airfield chaps would drive us around the field to see all the heavy stuff up close and then for good measure, give us a very informative tour of the gliding museum. Thanks indeed to Paul Haliday, our driver and guide for all his knowledge. As I believe Jeff has already said on the blog forum, Bill took down all the details which I'm sure he will post later so here are the photos I took. Just for anyone who intends visiting but not necessarily taking the guided tour, from the Basingstoke gate you can clearly see and read off VQ-BHR to the front with VQ-BBU behind her, with "BU" on the nose wheel doors. Looking across to the batch of four 727's, from closest to farthest they are.. Indeed Jeff, great to meet you too at long last!! Eleven "heavies" for me I reckon plus the stuff in the museum. Sorry I couldn't hang about but I had promised the missus I'd be back by 3.30 to walk the dogs but when the weather eventually perks up a bit, it would be good to meet up at Fairoaks, Blackbushe or wherever.

Thinking about it, as there are some airframes we saw today that aren't on record with GAS or airframes, I will post a log of the heavy stuff. Any errors gratefully received for correction...;0) Heavy type are those I potted. Saw VQ-BBU in Crete in September 2013 so not quite the clean sweep I thought it would be.

Showing on Flightradar24 inbound 01/01/15 G-LALE Emb135 LNX036L 18.35 Ian Ian This is duff gen from FR24. People who believe everything on FR will have a lot of junk in their books. It almost certainly went into Farnborough, despite what FR made up. Don't get me wrong. I look at FR a lot, but you have to be careful.

Morning Adrian, I think the reason we got the tour yesterday was because it was Jan 1st and presumably a day off for most, hence the airfield chaps decided to offer the tour round. There were quite a few enthusiasts there so at a fiver per person, it was a good way for them to make a few quid and to spotlight the excellent glider museum. We had no idea it would be available but as we were walking into the clubhouse for a coffee. we were asked it we wanted to take the tour.
Many of the logged frames can be seen from the clubhouse area even if it's just a tail. Good luck naturally if you do show up but whether the tour would be available I don't know. Maybe one of our Lasham specialists would know one way or the other?

That was quick then Jeff, they must have been poised with the "paint brush" as we drove by.
