Chaps, I haven't visited Farnborough since early 70s airshows. The missus is away for a couple of days soon and I would like to spend a couple of hours there logging whatever might be about and then nip down to Blackbushe. Can any of you Farnborough regulars advise of the best spots from where you can get a decent view of what's there? Many thanks Graham

If you want to see aircraft on the ground, the places above are best, but if you just want to observe arrivals and departures, the car park at Morrisons Supermarket gives quite a good view, plus there are food and bogs in the supermarket!

No Morrisons in Southwood. As it's abeam the runway about half a mile north, you get a fairly good view of aircraft when they are airborne in either takeoff direction. It's very popular during the airshow as you get a good view of all the displays.

Airshow is a bit different, I used to live next to the southwood playing fields, a very good place for displays but could never get anything departing or arriving, Id never really noticed anything from the morrisons car park during non airshow times even though I lived just over the road....., Graham I will try and put something together for you today at work although this particular thread seems to be blocked on my works pc !! Typical !!! The link phil posted is a little out of date now but still good

Cobbled together with the help Of google maps for road names, please feeel free to add anything I have missed
Eelmoor Bridge: Situated on the A323 Fleet Road, look for an old Iron Bridge on an S bend, the road over it is called Laffan’s Road, this is the main place Farnborough spotter spend their days, the views are pretty good of the runway and some of the ramps, anything that moves will be seen from here, parking can be a pain but there’s normally somewhere to park, any queries you have can normally be tied up by the spotters that are there. Laffans Rd If you continue down Laffans Road towards Pavilion Road there are gaps in the trees (Winter only) where some of the parked aircraft on the hangar ramps can be read off Hercules Way Best way to get here from Laffans road is to continue down Laffans road past the AAIB compound on the left and the Army Golf course Left and right, at the Motorcycle training centre turn Left into Forge Lane past runways end scout HQ over a small bridge then Left into Shoe Lane…at the end of this tree lined road you will emerge into the new aerospace park, turn left onto Aerospace Blvd, follow dual carriageway down and go straight across roundabout, Hercules Way is on the right, follow down to end where there’s a car park with more views of the hangar ramps and cross runway parking. This area is empty at weekends due to it being a trading estate, weekdays are different so please be aware of security and parking regulations. Dairy Gate Road Leaving Hercules Way turn left at the end and back onto dual carriageway, across roundabout and continue until you come to some traffic lights, turn left here and follow road, straight across at roundabout and you will see the Aviator Hotel on your right, just before the road starts going up a hill on your right is a road called Dairy Gate road, park in here and another angle of the Hangar ramps and cross runway parking is afforded to you across the airfield RAE Road Continue the way you were going past Aviator on your right and you come to another little cut in, more views from here for any stragglers you missed

Update for some prople who aren`t local, the access road from the west end of the Airfield (Eelmoor Canal bridge) through to the Business Park & the East End of the Airfield is now permanently closed beyond the AAIB, the only way to get from one end of the airfield to the other is now to take the main highways
