Hi Guys, New to the forum. I wondered if anybody knew anything about a B-17F (#42-30714). 306BG of Thurleigh, Bedfordshire Pilot: Reese, George(NMI). Location: Lasham/ 2 1/2 mi NW England.
It went down near Lasham during a failed go around after a raid, my son and I went to the forest in the supposed location, was a very poignant moment in the quiet woods although I'm not entirely sure we were in the right place. There is a place which is bizarrely devoid of trees of any great size in the center of the woods and I could suspect that might have been the location. Does anybody know anymore?

Can you give us a more exact location of the crash site, maybe a Google image.
I have a couple of friends who are UK WW2 experts, I have passed your request on to them to see if they can find out more.
I assume you have posted on the Flypast forum? Google Key Forums. Outstanding specialist knowledge on there.

There may well be more information if the local newspapers were permitted to report. Some are still available on microfiche at local libraries, no idea if these types of records are retained in Hampshire. When the Americans closed bases and moved 'back home' apparently they took with them all the major records including aircraft accidents, especially if they were 'off base'.
Thurleigh may have a remembrance web site with more info, or survivors of that Bomber Group may have the set one up?
A letter to the American Embassy is seen as worthwhile if it is for the purpose of research or links to family and friends.

From a good friend; It's odd as considering it crashed I can’t find anything that says the Captain named died as a result, if he had he would have been buried at Madingley in Cambridgeshire, I searched the American database on the link below, but came up blank, he could e-mail them at Madingley with the details to double check. www.abmc.gov/search/wwii.php
