Drop in complaints since flightpaths trial
By DAVID LINDSELL
NEW flight paths for private jets landing at and taking off from Farnborough airport have led to a drop in complaints about noise, according to TAG.
The so-called Farnborough Quiet Flying Programme is an attempt by TAG to alleviate the concerns about noise from aircraft flights. Advertisementyour story continues below
The airport operator started using new sound reduction methods at the end of April after consulting with residents’ groups.
Brandon O’Reilly, CEO of TAG said since he arrived last year the main complaint he had heard about the airport was the din from planes.
“As Farnborough Airport is part of the fabric of this society it is important we engage with the community to reduce and allay concerns about noise,” he said.
“If we can do that jointly it will be a more successful exercise.”

Living a few miles west, I get the Basingstoke rag. I find quite bizarre something that I keep seeing there. Apparently the residents in Lychpit in Basingstoke are fully behind the campaign to prevent further flights due to the disturbing noise they have over their houses from flights taking off from farnborough. How on earth can they a) be bothered by noise from something no other area of Basingstoke appears bothered by, and b) hear the aircraft over there anyway, when I have trouble hearing them over my house 5 miles earlier!!!

Living the other side of Basingstoke I would suggest that the Lychpit residents would have more cause for complaint about the use of the Bramley Training Area and the Hampshire Police Islander circling the town.

Regarding complaints by certain Basingstoke residents about Farnborough flights which seems peculiar. I have flown a couple of times from Southampton to Scotland. On one of these, we seemed to head east up M3 until the outskirts of Basingstoke and then turn smartly, and head north well to the east of the A34, and later Birmingham. I suggest it may be Southampton traffic which they could be moaning about as I have read it is possible to fly to 58 destinations from there. (A very busy airport)!

I have to say that, as my kids go to school in Chineham, I have seen quite a lot of exec jets on extended approaches/departures to/from FAB.
However, as well as the SOU stuff going over we also see LGW flights as well. But I would have thought the Chinooks etc going into Bramley would have been the real noise generators.

I must say, I'm in a bit of a state of shock! I would love to reply to someone on there but I may not do myself justice if I did! I can understand people complaining about noise, and I think if I wanted to live in a quiet area, didnt like aircraft and chinooks regularly flew over my house I would want to know why they had to do that and couldnt change their routes.
However, one of the chief complainants finally brings up the fact that she lives within ten metres of the ring road, and then further down a few hundred metres from the railway! She proceeds to quickly tell all how those are constant noises or quick noises!
However, she has a great idea to stop it all... a giant anti noise umbrella over the town... Brilliant!!
