I'm sure I heard this go over today, around 14:00, and there was one showing on SBS at FL230 - can anyone confirm or did anyone else hear it ?

Yes, it flew over my house in Bicester at lunch time. Departed out of East Midlands about 1310 bound for Toulouse.
What a sound! Managed to get a peek at it too, through the quite heavy cloud cover of the time. First time I've seen it.

The first time I ever heard it, it sounded like a formation of IL18's, a stunning aural delight, but I had no idea what it was due to cloud until a friend told me.
I happened to see it on departure from Stansted passing Barkway through 6000' AWESOME!

The only one of these I've seen 'in the flesh' is still the one that flew into Farnborough 1988. Anyone remember CCCP-09329 coming in with a replacement engine for one of the russian exhibits? The funny things, the previous year, I had a dream (for no reason that I can remember) about one of these flying low over my back garden (downwind for runway 25[?]) inbound to FAB. Of course, at the time, it was a dream I wanted to come true but never expected it to and definitely not the following year!

CCCP-09329 now resides at Tver-Kalinin, unfortunatley WFU, with the prefix RA
