Hi All,
Another installment of scanned SBAC slides, now I'm up to 1996.
Another good varied year but the last with a significant Russian presence.
It was also notable as being the last show McDonnell Douglas would take part in before being taken over by Boeing. Also the year their F18 returned early after coming foul of the flying control committee on the Tuesday.
Another feature this year was a short morning display at the weekend of extra vintage and aerobatic items.
So as usual I start with some arrival shots.
The first appearance of a Boeing 777.
BAe U-125 destined for the JASDF.
China Northern MD90
Photos of the flying display from outside the field.
JAS39 Gripen.
Another first for Farnborough but only on the Monday the fly by of the B2 Spirit.
KA50 Hokum.
Falcon 900EX.
Another debutant a EMB145.
Static shots.
Beechcraft PC9 MKII.
A Malaysian licensed built Optica.
US Navy E2C Hawkeye.
Edgeley EA9.
Mil Mi17MD Hip H.
From Romania/Israel an Aerostar MiG 21MF Lancer, this only flew on the Thursday.
A319.
US Marines AV8B.
USAF E8 J-Stars.
Yet another upgrade of the F5, this time F5E Tiger IV. Does anyone have a serial for this?
Originally a Grumman Cougar, now being produced by SOCATA as a TB320 Tangara.
The Flying Display
A late arrival on the Wednesday a TU214.
A strange combination the BAe Hawk 100 & EMB312 Tucano. They supposedly were the choice of the NATO joint training School in Canada but I believe they got PC9's not the Tucano in the end.
The first appearance of the Eurofighter.
Czech L59.
Another odd trade item a YAK 52 one of 2 which took turns to fly during the week.
The loser in the Russian AF trainer competition the MiG AT.
Mil Mi8MT HIP.
The undoubted star of the show for those lucky enough to witness it's display the thrust vectoring SU37.
A weekend visitor Concorde arriving on the Saturday on 06. That must have been quite a sight from Eelmoor!!
Some Russian support on departure Monday.
Just a support this year for Russian VIPs IL96M departing.
On the Monday evening with the sun setting on another show a pair of IL76s
Hope you enjoy this selection.
Cheers for looking
