1970 was the first Farnborough air show I was taken to, but 1972 was the first I was at after I had started spotting which I did after my dear late mother bought me my first pair of binoculars, so I remember a lot more of that year's show and those afterwards. Wasn't 1968 the year of the great September deluge during air show week?

Love the shots of the weird and wonderful VFW614... Germany's answer to the corporate jet.. Sadly didn't really go anywhere did it
Keep them coming!

Hi Peter, Again thanks for posting these pics. Many happy memories as the 1972, 74 & 76 shows are probably the first ones where I was really aware of what was going on. 1976 was a painful show for me as because of when the bank holiday fell school started during the rehearsal week so I heard lots saw very little! Great to see a pic of the Lockspieser LDA-01, didn't that reside at FAB for some years after it's show appearences? Again great stuff Cheers

N305EA was my first Tri Star. That appeared at the 1972 show. 1976 was a show that I didn't visit as I was unwell at the time. All I managed from that year's show was what I saw flying over Aldershot, so at least I saw something of that show. Thankfully my illness didn't stop me from travelling on my first holiday abroad to Canada!

Ohh I love all these pics, as a Farnborough boy I was there at most of the 1960 and 1970 airshows. My mum use to work in the "English Steel" chalet , so the workers family use to get in there on Saturdays and Sundays. But to get into the show I have been taken in in police cars, ambulances and maybe even a fire engine. All unofficial entrances of course, but courtesy of those service who had been entertained in the chalet during the week. happy days :-)

Peter, these are amazing! Having been brought up in the 70's at Farnborough but being very young, I have always thought what a shame it is that I remember very little of the shows. Then these come along! Suddenly I'm seeing planes and thinking, oh yes, I remember that! Thank you and please keep posting! Paul

Fantastic pictures Peter and brought back some fond memories - thank you. During the 60's as a child, we lived at Pyestock end of Fleet and we were always "over the woods" watching huge numbers of aircraft in the air at the same time, particularly from the Fleet Air Arm - Sea Vixen's (Simon's Circus!) etc etc. Of course made it to the fence many times and managed to get inside in 1974 to see the same SR71 that had blown the New York>London record on the Sunday press day - an event that I had seen from the fence by the pill boxes. After seeing this on the Sunday - main headline news with ITN was this event - 1 hour 55 minutes. Great days!
