Hi All I went down to FAB last weekend between a couple of visits to LHR - I get down to FAB maybe once a month. I had a visit from the police at home on Weds who had details of my vehicle and a report that I had been taking photos of a sensitive area in the Aldershot area (I assume this was an error and the report meant FAB as I wasn't in Aldershot). Everything was fine and it was easily resolved (I didnt have a camera and the policeman, who is obviously obliged to follow these things up, was very relaxed about it as am I) - I assume it was a report raised by a member of the public (visiting the area maybe?) who is not used to seeing aircraft enthusiasts with telescopes etc around airfields. I checked the aircraft from the fence along the main road at the east end (near to where the temp bridge used to be erected for SBAC shows) after parking in one of the dead ends on the other side of the road and then from the bridge at the west end of the runway and a little further down toward the AAIB - I've used all of these points many many times before. Could any of the locals confirm if there are any areas that are regularly used by enthusiasts that are deemed sensitive - the only spot I used that I think might be an issue is the road down to the AAIB - is this a problem? Just so I know next time. Thanks for any advice. hi
A325 where the SBAC show entrance is but not past the gates on to hotel property its a bit of a problem deciding whats theres and public land but there security guys frequently walk out of a side door and look at you they never come over to speak would be better if they did might improve relations. Local police patrols drive past every 10 minutes or so normally they dont stop . i take picures all ok there for years
at Fast museum ,
All very friendly and if you walk round rear of Blister hanger you can read off A SHED and those taxying on A for 24 . Pictures are no problem . Some Staff may come and speak to you but believe me there very friendly . Parking is limited at Fast but some spaces are ok in RAE Road as far as i can see.
Slough Estates.
dont advise anyone to bother Going there .security are very touchey even though there are PUBLIC Housing shops and offices they seem to hate anyone walking around . cameras follow you think there bored

I guess whilst TAG wants to win the 'hearts and minds' of locals in order to expand it's Farnborough operation, that gratitude is not apparent around their site. Seems TAG are being rather arrogant perhaps?
The only way to be sure you are not trespassing it do make a detailed study of the local roads, lanes fields etc and have that evidence as proof if you are challenged.
As an aside, in my opinion, what a complete waste of police time interviewing someone at home was!

What seems to becoming the norm in uk is NO CAMERAS
A- Dont take pictures if there children anywhere close by .at least a mile or more to be safe
b make sure cannot identify where the picture was taken keep it out of focus is safer
c-- say you work for the $uN sure to be ok then

Hi,
Makes you wonder doesn't it. Heard a story on Radio 2 Terry Wogan, so may not be true. But someone parked in a lay-by near Heathrow and was quizzed by the police, for being near a sensitive area. Going back to definite true story, my daughters boyfriend, was doing a HND photography course and had to take photographs to finish his years project. He was taking photos in Guildford shopping centre and was cautioned for doing so.!!! What is it coming too??

Had a text message from my uncle this morning whilst spotting in Denmark. Today he walked into the airport office at Roskilde and asked if he could go airside. This was approved once he a filled a form in and presented his passport (I think he emailed them last week). Imagine that happening at Farnborough!
My uncle has no other airport connections apart from being a spotter.

Many thanks... I'll enquire, as I'd rather be on the "right side" rather than get grief

Andrew, It makes sense to belong to it, it keeps you on the right side. I was approached by someone in authority; I treated them with respect, gave the correct password and no bother. There is also the advantage that the Officer in Charge every so often organises a guided trip around the airfield to members of the scheme. Well worth belonging to. Dave

He wasn't cautioned. It's not an offence to take piccies,so no offence,no caution. To get a caution he has to admit to a criminal offence, photography isn't!. Now he might have got a caution ( for admitting ) to something else, but not taking piccies. Also to get a caution he would have to have been arrested, interviewed at a nick, had prints, gobshot and dna done. If he thinks he has got a conviction, cause that's what a caution is,then he can get a copy of it from the police via a crb check by popping into his local nick and filling out the relevant forms. He probably got a stop form, there and then on the street. If he was told not do something then that would be advice, and none of the above. Heathrow is a sensitive area. I stop spotters sometimes.
