Centenary Flypast, Farnborough, 16 October 08, Version 2
Background The Farnborough Air Sciences Trust is celebrating 100 years since the Cody first flight at Farnborough at the FAST museum on 16th October. The event will be attended by invited guests and will be televised. At 1200 local, a flypast by a selection of aircraft will take place, beginning with a salute to Samuel Cody by an AAC Apache, and followed by a selection of historic aircraft.
Aircraft The following aircraft are expected to fly past the site, in chronological sequence related to their first flights. The flypast route will be west to east down runway 06, and over the museum.
Apache from/to Middle Wallop 1929 Gipsy Moth from/ to Audley End or Popham 1931 Tiger Moth (x5) from/to Popham 1935 Anson from/to Old Warden 1935 Hurricane from North Moreton to Duxford 1948 Chipmunk from/to Farnborough 1952 Vulcan from/to Brize Norton to Bruntingthorpe 1974 Hawk Royal Air Force, from/to Valley 1994 Typhoon Royal Air Force, from/to Coningsby? C-17 Royal Air Force, 99 Sqn, from/to Brize Norton Timing and Coordination The following times are planned, but may have to vary slightly, depending on the wind strength and varying groundspeed of the slower aircraft. Aircraft will be guided if necessary on overflight timings by the Display Coordinator in ATC. It will help succeeding aircraft if all pistons except the Hurricane fly on their approach and flypast close to their max speed, (max 200 kts for Hurricane). Again, jets should all maintain 250 kts for their approach and flypast, to help succeeding aircraft coordination Apache 1200 – 1203 500 ft aal Gipsy Moth 1204 - 1206 500 ft aal Tigers 1207 - 1209 500 ft aal Anson 1210 – 1212 500 ft aal; Hurricane 1213 – 1214 500 ft aal Chipmunk 1215 - 1217 500 ft aal Vulcan 1219 – 1220 1000 ft aal Hawk 1222 – 1223 1000 ft aal Typhoon 1225 – 1226 1000 ft aal C-17 1228 - 1230 1000 ft aal
Weather Minima The weather minima will be 3 nm visibility and 1500 cloudbase. The Display Coordinator will monitor the weather and inform all participants if the weather precludes a flypast.

Latest info is that the Tiger Moths will be joined by a Rapide, and that the Vulcan will be landing at Farnborough.

Thanks Keith, I have the same info on which planes will be flying in to Farnborough, where do you think the best place will be for taking photo`s ?
I was going to go to the other end of the airfield by Eelmoor Bridge. Do you think it would be advisable to go near the Swan pub on the Farnborough Road ?

Hi Tony ,Thanks for that,
This is the info that I have:
Route and Times The flypast will be from the west to the east down runway 06 and over the FAST museum
1200-1203 Apache helicopter 1204-1206 Puss/Gypsy Moth 1207-1209 5 x Tiger Moths 1210-1212 Anson 1213-1214 Hurricane 1215-1217 Chipmunk 1219-1220 Vulcan 1222-1223 Hawk 1225-1226 Typhoon 1228-1230 C-17
I should warn you that the Vulcan is currently out of service and may not make the flypast.
So if the planes are flying from west to east, will I be better off by Eelmoor Bridge for photo`s ? Were is runway 6 ?

The Vulcan will then return to land at Farnborough, staying for two days before returning to its home base in Bruntingthorpe on Saturday October 18.

Good Morning .. Is this event being televised? can't seem to see it on the listings, although I'm in the London area, most channels are showing the Olympic Parade.
Thanks Graham

Thurs 11.25 , Looks like the Apache for the display has just gone over slowly from the river towards Heathrow, didn't relaise how 'different' a noise they made. Terry

whoa thats an end please no more bad feeling please on what was a good display most i saw from Northside while on deliverys . My only beef was there was no British civil airliner that took part not that it would be easy to find one poss just an RAF VC10 would have done why not also a few Wartime props from Duxford Not turn this into what ended up as a RAF Fast jet Event .

I managed to get most but have one or two gaps, if anyone can fill them I would be much obliged... ZJ219 Apache AAC G-AGTM Dragon Rapide Air Atlantique G-APLU Tiger Moth G-AIXJ Tiger Moth G-APMX Tiger Moth ....... Tiger Moth G-ABAG ....Moth ZZ174 C17 RAF G-AHKX Avro 19 ....... Hurricane (UP-? code??) G-BDDD Chipmunk XH558 Vulcan ....... Hawk RAF ....... Typhoon RAF Shame they didn't put up one or two others, VC10 would have been great but what about the DERA Bac 1-11 (picked it up just a couple of days ago on SBS - so she must be airworthy!!). Cheers Bill

Margaret Thatcher was there to watch the Vulcan. Could be its last flight unless they can get a sponsor, apparently.

I've just had one of those days, bit like the Stock Market, highs and lows .. Well highs and very deep lows .. woke up this morning, which is always a bonus, sun shining so attending Farnborough pleased me even more, looked forward to seeing the Vulcan in the air for me the first time since its rebuild .. drove down from West London, light traffic no hold ups, parked in the car park by the shoping centre in plenty of time, even had time to go get a coffee and a bite to eat .. so on a high. Walked up to the Swan and Fast (wasn't there a lot of people about.) but decided to stand back by the BMW Garage as photos of the flypast would be more from the side and the light hopeful would add some interesting effects !!! Then things started to go down hill .. I was under wellm'd by the fly past, started fine with the Moths and Rapide .. then a long waits for the Anson, Hurricane, Chipmunk .. Loved the Vulcan .. nearly missed the Hawk, a singleton at 1000ft is small!! Then a high point .. had walked up to the Swan carpark .. Vulcan landing Great. True what Bill and Tony have said .. surely there could have been a bigger British turn out .. perhaps the AOC Auster, a Spitfire where was the Spit, a Harrier, a Dove/Heron, the list goes on .. There must be many more British Types that are still airworthy that over the years that have been tested, worked on or display at Farnborough. Then came my lowest point, in fact a just don't talk to me type low, a complete Stock Market Crash !!! .. got home, pluged into the computer to download my photos ONLY TO FIND THAT MY CAMERA IS BROKEN. so no photos of my day out. Not permitted. Graham ps. do we have a time for the Vulcan departure Sunday?

I too thought it was disappointing and inadequate and almost disrespectful considering the huge step in aviation that was being celebrated. Incidentally, there was some really stupid parking at Eelmoor with cars actually parked ALL ALONG the bridge and double parked within the junction at the main road itself on both sides !! Where was the local plod who must have known about the event and what it would attract ?

And i think this may Upset somebody but why was this Turned into the LADY THATCHER show on TV ? this was about Cody yet ITV showed plenty oF her and not much else of the flypast , As this was about CODY and not XH558 WHY was so much made of her . Suppose its links to Falklands and 558 Which same episode took place on last day of SBAC 2008 . We share the joy of that Aircraft return but not in the glory of THATCHERS WAR right or Wrong.
