I'm new to the Group. Having grown up 5 miles from Farnborough I spent many hours "looking over the fence" during the 60s and early 70s during the Air Show and at other times. I have a long list of queries relating to sightings.
Having read the "Zebedee" thread I wonder if any of the group members can shed any light on the following.
Shackleton MR.2 WG557 was soc 10/1964 and allocated to the fire dump. Can anyone recall how long this aircraft remained extant. I have a note of seeing it but am trying to narrow down the dates.
Also, did Shackleton MR.3/3's WR979 and WR988 spend any time based on Farnborough?
TIA for any responses!

I started spotting in 1972. At that time, the only Shackletons I saw were T5 VP293 & MR3 WR972. I'm afraid I can't help with the others.

My records say that WG557 was finally broken up at Farnborough in 1972 but I'm afraid I have no note as to exactly when in that year. I took the following picture of her in better days in 1961.

Thanks for all the replies! The Shackelton website link sent by Russ is excellent!
