Hi, I have used the EPSON Perfection 3490 for a couple of years. I wanted to produce colour photos from a whole box of old 35mm and 110 size negatives. I was recomended this by someone at London University, they were using it at the time. It works very well and once you get up to speed with the device - scanning loads of negatives is quite quick. Sadly time moves on and this item has been replaced by www.epson.co.uk/scanners/Epson-Perfection-V200-Photo-Scanner.htm. From what I have seen it looks like the same method is used, but they now have enhanced the dust reduction etc. The way it works is you slide out the reflective cover from the underside of the lid. You then have a piece of plastic which holds either 35mm slides (3 per scan) or strips of 35 mm negative (6 per scan), also has slots for 110 size. You have to orientate the holder depending on what you are scanning, its all marked so is easy. It comes with it's own software which can switch between "easy" and "professional" modes. I use 3rd party software called VUEPRINT which interfaces with the scanner directly. Hope this helps Flyingtrack

Peter. I do not have a slide scanner but instead used a digital camera to photograph the slides projected on to a screen. The results are not bad..

My new toy is a CanoScan 4400F. I got it of Ebay, refurbished from Canon for £43. (I'm also a cheap skate.) The results are reasonable (given the rubbish I took) but I have only just got it so I'm still playing with it. Rgds Cking

T Fond memories cking - thanks. Incidentally Tony in 1974 (completed just before the Sept show) they resurfaced the then 07/25 and added concrete ends - whilst doing this the jets and larger stuff went to Boscombe and Bedford and they used 18/36 for the Devons and smaller stuff. They even had traffic lights set up at the Southwood end (long before the golf course) to stop traffic when a plane was landing. Of course the newly resurfaced runway soon got tested, a C5A was on static that year and the SR71 broke the New York London record on press day and landed at Farnborough (the Sunday). Jonnie

Other long gone RAE sounds I remember and would love to hear again, even though I know I won't: Hastings; Beverley & Shackleton. In the case of the first two it would be an impossibility, I think it's just the CAA that's stopping us from hearing a Shackleton again.

Absolutely - also in the early 70's the NGTE at Pyestock had a test rig built onto a lorry chasis with a jet engine on that used to go up and down the then 07/25 runway. I belive there were two shacks with the Beverley parked in the same area and two Hastings - one with the belly! Jonnie
