Only one other sound which stays with me so I can remember it 50 years later - Convair B-36. I only ever saw one, over Morden in the 50s, and never found it's serial. Truly awesome machine...

I can still remember the sound of such things as the Blackburn Beverley, Handley Page Hastings and last, but not least, the Avro Shackleton. All from Farnborough in the late 1960s & early s1970s. Perhaps mention should be made of the succession of Vickers Varsitys that have been based at Farnborough, the last of which was retired in the mid 1990s. These are the Varsities I have: WF425,WF387,WJ893,WL635 & WL679. Given a northerly wind, I can remember hearing the DH104 Devons running up their engines in the morning, even from my bit of Aldershot! I've gone all misty eyed now! Another very distinctive noise comes from the Fiat G222
