Evidently up to 20 A10's are to be operating out of Lakenheath until the 19th of August, shame I have no time to get up there and visit but I believe they will be flying all over the UK, maybe some will venture South at some point but wont hold my breath !

They were so common a few years back. I remember seeing a Cyprus Airways A310 being broken off the approach to runway 26 at Luton to avoid a pair of A10's that had accidentaly penetrated the Luton zone and proceded to overfly the airport at no more than 100ft! And then there were the F111's!

Hi,
Happy days. I remember, me and wife, where walking around Spadling gardens, when two A10's came over. Turned in a flat tight circle at almost tree top height and came back wing waggling. F111's at Lakenheath and Upper Heyford. Such memories.

As a guess, I reckon the East Coast ranges such as Holbeach & the like, might see some action. (I wonder if Cape Wrath in Scotland, ever sees them, or ours much?) The E.C. ranges are only a short hop from Lakenheath, so anyone up that way could see some action. After seeing him on T.V. today, trying to assure everyone that their money was safe, it could be that 'Mr President' might save a few dollars flying from there, unlikely but possible! They certainly need to be careful from now on, otherwise everyones going to have big money problems all round, & that includes yours truly! Both Lakenheath & Mildenhall are worth visits, also Lakenheath had a good 'Spotters' car park. Last time I went up, where Mildenhall's used to be, had gone. (In fact it was another entrance). They were also putting up fences in the lanes behind there, (they had some Stealths visiting), & appeared to be trying to prevent viewing, so I assume the fencing has stayed For anyone who hasn't been, both fields are almost within sight on one another. Unfortunately on some days at Lakenheath nothing seems to move, whilst at other times it was busy.

I was up that way today, but had not enough time to pop over & check the field. The chap I was visiting, said there had been a good number of A10's around lately. (Although I saw no military planes about today). Without saying too much, but bearing in mind what they are doing.-well!! (Nuff said).

Sadly, the USAF never permitted dump & burn with their F111s. It was only the Aussies that performed it in the UK, e.g. Finningley & Fairford shows. Sad also that the Aussies put most of them in a land fill.
