These were seen outside later this afternoon (between 15:00 & 16:00 hrs) G-BYUV,BYXH & BYXD. The last mentioned was doing engine runs & what looked like compass swings. I haven't seen any reports of any more arriving since *XD, though I believe there are a few of the G-BY ** ones still outstanding, and I don't believe we are getting the more recent G-CG** ones. So is 'The Great Grob Hunt' now at an end, or are the last three or so still due to come in? Phil L

Before G-BYXD departed it was the subject of some kind of photo shoot. Does this mean it was the last one?

Does anyone know what happened to these at FAB? Just wondering, as I've only seen a few of them - they take up 2 pages in Civil Aircraft Markings!!

Hi Dylan
Usually quite a few buzzing around the Devizes area here, there are some based at Middle Wallop and more than likely at Boscombe Down, I saw one at Colerne about a year ago and possibly some at Upavon too which is only 8 miles down the road from here.

Yes Dylan, your nearest based will be Middle Wallop and Boscombe Down.
Wish they would send the G-CGK- fleet to Farnborough- I need 5 from Cosford and 1 from Leuchars( if still there). Not places I get to regularly!

I don't think any were based at Farnborough. The G-BY** ones passed through Farnborough on a maintenance programme. See this link: www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/gama-completes-grob-tutor-safety-upgrade-for-uk-363000/I believe all but 3 of the G-BY** ones passed through Farnborough, maybe the outstanding three were done at Grob. I know I'm not the only one who got it down to three. The above mentioned G-CGKW is the only one I've seen from the latter batch. Yes, on it's visit to FAB a couple of years ago.

No I didn't mean base them at Farnborough, if you're replying to my post. I know they weren't based there. I've travelled to all their bases across the country seeing them, but made my last 5 G-BY.. at Farnborough when they visited for maintenance.
I meant I wished the G-CGK- fleet would come for maintenance at Farnborough like the the G-BY.. fleet did.

No, 'zz' not specifically your post. It was Dylan's. I remember seeing a few in the Air Britain UK / Ireland aircraft register a few year's ago marked as FAB based. I suspect that these were the first few to pass through & maybe someone got the wrong end of the stick. I wouldn't hold your breath re the latest batch, it's most likely that these were delivered with whatever safety modification work Gama did on the older frames already incorporated, though I don't know the reason for G-CGKW's visit in 2012. It's still the only one I've seen from that batch! And I've still to see the three older frames that (to my knowledge) weren't done at FAB! I can't help but wonder why the G115s retained their civil registrations when the Beech King Airs, which were delivered with G-RAF* reggies later took up ZK*** military serials.

No I'm not expecting the new ones at any time.
Annoyingly been to Cosford twice since the new ones were delivered but there were none outside. At Leuchars I saw all but one of the based Grobs- it's a long way to go back!

Grob 115 Tutors have suffered a temporary grounding this year, not I would hasten to add, due to the avionics mods by GAMA! Grob 109b Vigilants in the Air Cadet Gliding fleet are still grounded as far as I know.
