By 2016 25 RAF Merlin HC.3 helicopters will be transferred to the Royal Navy to replace their ageing Sea King HC.4 helicopters in 845NAS and 846 NAS at RNAS Yeovilton
All HC3 and HC3A aircraft are being transferred to the RN and will eventually be converted to HC4 and HC4A standard. The RAF will not have Any Merlin's
A story in the Basingstoke Gazette on 21 June gives the impression that Odiham will be, if anything, busier but what of RAF Benson ?

Benson I guess will still be home to the re-manufactured Puma fleet?

When they announced the procurement of the latest Chinooks, they also announced that a number of them would be based at Benson. I dont know if that still stands, but remember there is a Chinook simulator at Benson, so some Chinooks being there permanently would make some sense.

With the Merlin fleet being transferred across to the RN next year and a much reduced Puma force (24), does Benson have a future?
