Hi guys
I dont know whether you guys in the know have had any communication from the VulcanToTheSky group or not, but it seems there will be a doubt about its participation. It didnt fly at Waddington this weekend due to the CAA not issuing its Permit to Fly in time. They have said it should only be a matter of days, and XH558 is sitting on the ground airworthy, but they cant move till they get the dockets. I just wondered if they have officially notified you of a withdrawal or if they are waiting to see what happens.
thanks

No withdrawal, but huge WHOOPS if it diverts in and talkdownman 'saves the day'! Then I awoke. If is displays, then fantastic, if it doesn't, my daughter will still have a great time viewing the aircraft in the hangars (she is 5). I might well enjoys the smell of Jet A1 as well!

I'm hoping my son will enjoy it likewise! However he is 20 months and big metal things tend to scare him. He loves Thomas the Tank yet when we saw it at Alresford he cried! He points at every plane in the sky and waves at it so I'm hoping he'll be different in the hangars! Can talkdownman "accidentally" talk the vulcan on to the runway? !!

Permit to Fly for Vulcan XH558 has been issued. she was due to leave Waddington at around 1700 with and arrival time of 1800 ish at Yeovilton. So good news for the open day!
Not sure if it will come through the zones, but should be on its way soon if it does!

A couple of bits of information about the Open Day.
Gates will open at 0830 although the Open Day does not officially start until 1000.
Access is via the entrance on the opposite side of the airfield on the road which leads from the Garden Centre to Lasham Village. There is no access via the ATC Lasham gates.
The hangars will only be open for visitors until 1400 when the flying display begins.
Here's hoping for a good day.

What crowd control measures will be in place to prevent a 'mobbing' of Talkdownman whilst live on stage?
Thanks for the route advice, the entrance must be close to the 'black' hangar south of the runway?

I think that's where it was last time. Phil, as you are in a "giving" mood(!), how long is the display due to last, and what are the errr, refreshment facilities like? Oh and to keep the wife sweet can I tell her the toilets are plentiful?!
*just read this and realised I have referred to PWhigfield as "Phil" without actually knowing your first name! My apologies sir!

Sufficient, not necessarily plentiful, and Talkdownman will be on duty to make sure they are spotlessly clean!

My apologies sir! You must be psychic, as Phil is my name. The display is scheduled for 1400-1530 and as someone has already responded I believe that adequate toilet facilities are available.

Thanks Phil!
I'm not sure if anyone here wants to break their anonymity today, but I'd love to say hello to anyone from here. If you're looking I'll have a black vulcan t-shirt on and a wife and 20 month old boy in tow.

And if anyone wants to say hello to me I will be in Bay 3 with the Norwegian B737 between 12 and 2. Otherwise I may be helping people on and off the shuttle buses from the car park.
Phil

1500ft cloud base this afternoon....not ideal!
If Talkdownman is keeping the loos clean, he will probably be using my head to do it!
So if you see a big brown bear with his head stuck down the toilet, you will know why!

So the flying was cancelled due to the weather, but big thanks to the ATC crew at Lasham. We really enjoyed our trip up and ultimately spent most of the afternoon wandering around the hangers!!!
Here's hoping for better luck next year though.
Regards,
James Mayl

I went along just after midday and thoroughly enjoyed my walk round the hangars. Got some great picturs with my boy that I would never be able to get anywhere else on the planet, and I thank all of you involved for that. I imagine it was slightly disappointing that the weather blew the display, but you should be proud of yourselves for the event. As it happened it allowed me to leave early and get to the Odiham Fete anyhow.
Not sure I could work out which one of the band was talkdownman. My money was on the bass guitarist?
Also, the pilot of the Odiham chinook said when they arrived at the fete there was a four ship of Extras holding to go in to Lasham. I assume they didn't get in? Was this the Blades?

Vulcan started up at Yeovilton today, was a lovely sound and after 10min shut down with brake problem . Wasn't it the brakes that kept it at Farnborough last october for a month?
