One year on from the inauguration of 2Excel Engineering at Lasham I thought you might like to have an insider's update.
As many of you will know 2Excel Engineering was launched on 4th January 2016. At that time 43 ex ATC Lasham personnel were TUPE'd to the new company. Initial EASA approvals had been granted for B727 and B737 maintenance. These were quickly followed by Manx, Guernsey, Cayman and Bermudan with FAA following in April 2016. That month also saw B757 added to the approvals listing. Nigerian Approval has subsequently been added.
As most of you will have seen from the movements listings for 2016 much of the new business initially came from Maleth, Air X Charter and Cello, with the support of European Aviation at Bournemouth. Some of the former VIP customers of ATC Lasham returned and became regular visitors, whilst parent companies 2Excel Aviation and TAG Stansted provided additional work with regards to the Oil Spill Response fleet and B727 N724YS. On 14th September we experienced our busiest operational day for many years if not ever, with a coincidence of all of the above customers operating an arrival or departure on the same day!
During the Summer we were in negotiation with Jet-Time of Denmark and were pleased to be awarded a series of maintenance checks on their behalf starting in October. And you will know from the movements listings that for various reasons several of their aircraft have been on site at Lasham over the last 3 months. More to come in 2017.
Lasham had historically been a safe haven for a number of leasing companies and a contract was secured with GECAS which meant that a number of aircraft would arrive for storage and onward sale. Consequently the number of aircraft on the ground gradually overtook the number of aircraft when ATC Lasham went into Administration.
The next milestone was the return of SX-RFA - 2Excel Engfineering's first B757 customer. This is to be followed in January and February by the 2 x B757s operated by LaCompagnie.
I am now pleased to be able to say that 2Excel Engineering employs more than 110 personnel, the majority of whom are former ATC Lasham employees and we have a full order book for the first 4 months of 2017. We look forward to taking the business forward and returning to former times.
