The 727 is such an iconic aircraft. Really hope we don't lose them from the UK.

Will send it to you Malcolm Think I was in the rhs seat for this shot and you would always give me the lhs seat! I'm off down the Labour Exchange. After that, off to get some jigsaws from the charity shop. Meanwhile, Tony, any chance of a hi-res one of these for posterity, please. I must've talked in a fair number of those airframes... (...and was I driving when you took that shot?) MTIA M

B733 LN-KHB leaving for continued storage at Stavanger today according to Skyliner. Has a skeleton staff been left in place by the administrators to deal with departing aircraft etc?

Administrators have brought in a skeleton staff to get these aircraft away. LGS when I visited on Sunday appeared to have stopped and padlocked any access onto the airfield through any other gate bar the main gliding club entrance.

Out of curiosity, how many frames are capable of being flown out?

I guess as they are in store, most of them assuming the correct engineering processes and approvals are forthcoming? The ex Norwegian, Spicejet, VP-CAQ, HZ-SKI and G-OSRA hangared, and I suppose N727EL which has been in long-term store. the VP- B727s have not flwn in a while, nor has 5U-BAG Niger 737.

LGS when I visited on Sunday appeared to have stopped and padlocked any access onto the airfield through any other gate bar the main gliding club entrance. I visited both gates at around 16:00 on Sunday and there certainly were no padlocks, cars were coming/going freely from the Basingstoke and Village access points.

I popped up to Lasham to photo the departure of LN-KHB, but I was not prepared to ruin my camera during a temporary monsoon like shower! I did however, snap this. All in all, very sad for all the employees. The car park at the club was full at 14:00 and a meeting was taking place, no idea if it was related to the closure?

www.companyrescue.co.uk/latest-news/atc-lasham-at-southend-airport-has-gone-into-administrationWorkers at the aircraft maintenance company ATC Lasham were today told that the company was in administration and they were being made redundant with immediate effect. The administrators from Grant Thornton said the business had “no option” but to close down. The firm had a turnover of £48m but the expected increase in orders in the last quarter had failed to materialize and so the current losses that the business was racking up were just going to get worse. Nigel Morrison, at Grant Thornton, said: "The business is long standing with a highly skilled workforce and strong reputation in the industry. However, given the losses and lack of future orders the directors reached the conclusion they had no option but to proceed with the appointment of administrators. "Given the low levels of current activity, it is no longer viable to keep the company in operation following our appointment. We have therefore unfortunately had to make a significant level of staff redundant although we have retained sufficient employees to keep necessary industry approvals in place and to deal with administrative matters." It is expected that over a 100 jobs will be lost. It is always tough when employees seem to be the last to know that a business is in difficulty and then suddenly are made redundant. The reasons are mainly due to the restrictions placed on companies by the insolvency act 1986 and the reality of the situation. Once a company cannot pay its bills the duty of the directors switches to the creditors and they cannot allow the creditors position to get worse or they could be held personally liable. Also creditors who have security over the assets of the company such as their banks can basically "pull the plug" if they think their lend is at risk. The other practicalities are simply that if knowledge of problems gets into the market then some creditors can take actions that prejudice others creditors such as withdrawing supply and credit. This was one of the reasons why pre pack administrations were popular in the past as it allowed a business to continue to trade in the event of a very aggressive creditor.

It must've happened after you visited. By 7pm when I left the airfield on Sunday the Lasham Village and 09 gates had an 'out of order sign and had a padlock round the entrance gates. Speaking to someone who was on the airfield today access has been further restricted with now no access to/from Lasham Village as barriers have been put up. Sad for all involved but understandable protection now being applied. Planesandthings

LN-KHB departed at around 14:00.

I found this on the web in relation to a question raised by a local about the closure of ATC Lasham and a potential housing development.
Ref. ATC. Lasham Gliding Society own the airfield and it is protected by all sorts of undertakings safeguarding it form a voracious developer. The Society has many highly qualified members in both law and administration and the Society has (unlike our MP's) the skills to plan for this event under the qualified direction of the General Manager.
Not a lot else to be found on the internet, even the local' rags' have missed this story and ATC Lasham must have been one of the larger employers in the area!

Nothing in the Basingstoke Gazette yet (as you might expect), obviously a major loss of jobs in the area is not important news.
Good luck to all those made redundant and hope the jobless period is short.
Regards
Mike
