It picks up military but about 99% do not broadcast their position, so you have no idea where they are. I heard the Merlin on Farnborough LARS, picked up an EH10 in the aircraft list, put two and two together...... It picks up Gazelles, Pumas, Merlins, Tornados, C17's, Sentinel, E3's, Tristars, Hercs, VC10, Nimrod's. In fact about the only thing RAF it doesn't pick up, you guessed it, is Chinooks oh, and Tucanos and Tutors. HTH - Paul.

Sorry about my ignorance on the subject but I've never seen an SBS box in operation The Merlin this morning for example did it show on your SBS box as "Navy 812" or did it just come up "EH10"?

SBS is split screen in normal mode - to the left is a radar like display that shows where aircraft are that are using full ADS-B. These are mostly airliners.
On the RHS of the screen is a list which contains text details of all those on the radar display plus those that cannot be plotted as they are only showing ADS-B without position or Mode-S only.
The Merlin showed up in the list as an EH10 (ICAO type), and, as I've seen it before, I had the details for it, loaded via airframes.org.
Each aircraft has it's own hexcode (unique), therefore it is possible to match the hexcode to the aircraft using airframes or GAS (Gatwick Aviation Society).
If you've never seen one, I suggest you take a look at the Martin Lynch and Sons site (http://www.hamradio.co.uk/) - plus the good news is they've just dropped the price from £500 to £380 due to a recently released competitor called Airnav. You can always pop up to Chertsey to see one in action.
Hope this is useful.
Cheers - Paul.
