www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/tag-farnborough-set-for-revamp-ready-for-market-rebound-386450/?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeedTAG Farnborough airport, the UK's only dedicated business aviation airport, is planning a multimillion-pound revamp and expansion in preparation for an expected market rebound. TAG has acquired a 38,000ft² (3,530m²) office and associated land on the airport's northeast boundary, which will be developed for staff currently based in the terminal. "This purchase will allow us to free-up space in the VIP terminal for additional passenger lounges and enhanced facilities for our customers," says Brandon O'Reilly, chief executive of TAG Farnborough Airport, which has spent more than $150 million in infrastructure programmes and improvements since becoming leaseholder of the site - home to the biennial Farnborough air show - in 2001. TAG is also seeking to reclassify airspace above the airport from uncontrolled to controlled which, it says, should speed up departures and landings and reduce delays on the ground. "Once NATS [UK's principal air navigation service provider] has completed the airspace design [scheduled for year-end], we will then make our application to the UK Civil Aviation Authority," says O'Reilly. "These projects are vital if we want to be on the front foot when the market returns." TAG Farnborough's overall movements have fallen from a peak of 27,800 in 2007 to 24,000 in 2012, mainly because of a fall in movements of medium and light cabin aircraft. "This sector of the market has been hit hard by the economic downturn. In contrast, however, the number of VIP airliner movements is growing month on month. In 2012, we recorded 700 movements - 45% more than in 2011 - and that trend is continuing thanks to the increase in traffic from China, India and Brazil," adds O'Reilly. TAG Farnborough has an ultimate movement ceiling of 50,000, being phased in year on year until 2019. "We hope the market will be back in full swing before then, but we don't have a crystal ball," says O'Reilly. "We are getting the airport ready for the rebound, and plan to be prepared on the ground and in the air so we can offer our customers a seamless travel experience."

I understand that this news has not gone down well at a certain airfield used for gliding!

No they would just need clearance to enter the Zone and be able to SQK Assume this means no entry for Non Radio or Transponder ; for those not sure this is the building or part of it

News from the local paper:-
planned for airshow facilities By Amy Hopkins July 02, 2013
AN extensive £25 million upgrade has been planned for Farnborough International Airshow’s (FIA) facilities.
The two-stage masterplan by Farnborough International Limited (FIL) will see some fixtures of the biennial airshow at the TAG Aerodrome site made permanent, along with a new conference centre.
The first phase will involve the construction of 40 permanent business and hospitality chalets which offer on-site parking, mains power, water, and waste facilities. Currently, the chalets are erected on a temporary basis for the airshow.
These plans will be completed prior to the 2014 event and have already received £2.5m of funding from Enterprise M3, allowing work to begin later this year.
This funding, together with FIL’s own investment, will contribute towards the £5m needed for the phase one development.
Shaun Ormrod, chief executive of airshow organisers FIL, said: “FIA has become one of the largest exhibitions in the world for the global aviation community and we want to maintain our leading position.
“With new airshows developing around the world, we are determined to ensure FIA continues to offer unrivalled facilities for exhibitors and visitors alike.
“Our vision is to create a ‘home’ for our exhibitors and these development plans will achieve this objective.”
Geoff French, chairman of the Enterprise M3 Board, which works to promote economic growth for the M3 corridor, said the airshow had a significant economic impact throughout the M3 region and this development would build on past success.
Discussions about the proposed developments have been ongoing since 2009. Extensive public consultation will be sought before any work on the second stage of the development begins and planning permission will be needed.
If approved and funded, the second stage will see the building of a conference centre at an estimated cost of just over £20m after the 2014 airshow.
Mr Ormrod said that he was hopeful the second plans would go ahead and he would be surprised if objections were raised as the proposals would enhance employment opportunities in the area.
Sir Gerald Howarth, MP for Aldershot, said: “FIA is a real asset to both the UK and the region. It is a major contributor to the local economy and showcase for the UK aerospace business which continues to be a world leader.
“The development plans for the FIA site will not only enhance the venue for all visitors but also create an excellent exhibition and venue space for the wider business community – a real plus for the region.”
The world-famous airshow for 2014 will take place from July 14 to 20. Print Article
Regarding TAGs new building I believe its what was the Computer Desk site on the corner, not the wedge opposite CostCo

TAG are also allegedly spending heavily on creating a area of Controlled Airspace around Farnborough. Project is well under way and consultation progressing.

TAG are also allegedly spending heavily on creating a area of Controlled Airspace around Farnborough. Project is well under way and consultation progressing. Since when do you have to pay for airspace? Big budget to get the plan right, consultation done properly, and for them, a positive outcome. The only way Farnborough can expand is to get Controlled Airspace, so this project is vital. Personally I don't think much would change close to the airport, transits will have to be allowed, the issue comes with protecting the ILS on both ends and the associated vectoring areas. If I was making the application, top of my list would be access to all types of aviation via a shared useage of airspace which could be runway in use dependant. As for the CAS required to get traffic in and out of the TMA, again shared use of airspace is a possibility? If TAG fail, then flights are capped, thus a budget to ensure all the plans and consultation are done correctly. I speak with a modicum of knowledge on the general subject of Controlled Airspace creation and the processes behind it. There is absolutely no guarantee of success for TAG or the objectors, for the mind of the regulator has to be balanced.
