The 88 quoted was the ICA-Brasov IS-28B (BGA.2712) then owned by the RAE Gliding Club (now I believe at Shipdham ?), 88 was its construction number

G-XRMC became G-BZNR. I also remember the BP fleet around this time. HS125s VR-BLP,BLQ & Gulf 4 VR-BLR (which became VR-BUS, then VP-BUS) And wasn't VR-BOB(2) the Gulf 4 also based here? I think Dove G-OPLC also lived here for a while. I think the airships were Lightships N2017A & N2022B

Bob Maxwell's Gulfsteams were VRBOB (G4) bec VPBOB and VRBRM (G3) bec VPBRM, both of which were fully in use after Bod's demise. GOPLC was certainly there also with David (Lord) Trefgarne often flying it.

This has pressed a nostalgia button for me. Looking through my diary, I mention ZS-NJE, which was a DC3 painted up in RAF colours. It became G-BVOL. Was this based at Farnborough? What about Learjet G-OCFR; HS125 G-ICFR? What was VR-CGS & was it based in 1994?

Chauffair crashes into receivership

CommentsComment
CHAUFFAIR, the jet charter business that found itself at the centre of allegations of corporate excess at Tomkins, the engineering conglomerate, has collapsed into receivership.
PricewaterhouseCoopers was appointed administrative receiver to the firm, the largest private jet charter business in the UK, earlier this month.
The revelation in October 2000 that Tomkins owned a fleet of corporate jets - nicknamed Tomkins' "air force" - was one of a number of allegations that led to the departure of Greg Hutchings, Tomkins' founder and chief executive.
It was claimed that Hutchings used the jets - which were leased and operated by Chauffair - for personal holidays as well as business trips. In March Tomkins sold the four jet planes, three Hawker jets and a Citation V at the centre of the row to Chauffair, for a reported £1m.
Alongside a number of bluechip corporate customers, including BT, Shell and British Gas, Chauffair was also a favourite of sport stars and celebrities. Customers included Nelson Mandela, Diana Ross and Michael Winner.

I think VR-CEJ became G-RCEJ. Add Citations G-JCFR & DCFR along with HS125 G-HCFR to Chauffair fleet. G-HCFR became G-CJAA; G-ICFR became G-OURA & G-NCFR became G-OURB. Citation G-GAUL became G-ESTA.
